Five Essential Meditation Benefits for Mental Health and Wellbeing

TL;DR

What would it feel like to experience more ease and less stress every day? Discover the benefits that meditation can bring!

Meditation is gaining popularity in all walks of life due to the benefits it provides. This simple practice stems from millennia of knowledge and experience. When something stands the test of time, then it’s definitely a sign to take notice and learn more.

"The goal of meditation is not to get rid of thoughts or emotions. The goal is to become more aware of your thoughts and emotions and learn how to move through them without getting stuck." - Dr Philippe Goldin

Let’s walk through FIVE of the key benefits of meditation below and think about how one or two could make a positive difference in your own mental health and wellbeing.

Improved brain activity

Meditation provides tons of brain goodness. The brain works in brainwaves and electrical currents that affect our wellbeing and actions.

Have you ever had one of those groggy days because you didn't rest enough? Or do you find that when you stress, even more stressful events happen?

You can blame brain activity, particularly how your synapses and brainwaves function. Yet, that doesn't mean you are powerless—quite the opposite, in fact. If we can control our brain, we can control our mind, body, and life.

Beta, alpha, delta, and theta are types of brainwaves. It is said that the most rejuvenating and creative for us are delta and theta, especially for manifesting goals and desires. So, ideally, all hustlers should aim at enhancing these. Beta is what we mostly operate on in our day-to-day lives when dealing with stress or busy routines. Alpha is a little bit more relaxed, such as when we are operating on autopilot mode.

Meditation increases our time in delta and theta. We can actively go into more expansive and creative states through this practice. Who doesn't need a new kickass idea for a startup or a boardroom meeting? Meditation will give you more lightbulb moments when you need them.

Monks were observed in scientific studies, which showed that parts of the brain that are usually fairly dormant became active through meditation.
In fact, studies have shown that within 8 weeks, you can dramatically change your brain activity, so there really is no excuse not to start!

Reduced stress and anxiety

Stress and anxiety usually go hand in hand. Bringing awareness into them will assist with their reduction and meditation is a remedy that has been proved to assist with this reduction—no prescription drugs or forms of self-medication required.

The numbers speak for themselves, there are numerous approved and rigorous studies that show clear correlations between relaxation and meditation. Simply focus on your breath and become more present to release stress and anxiety.

Increased self-awareness and growth

Not so easy to scientifically measure, but meditation allows us to maturely seek and address our problems. Sitting with oneself causes a process of self-reflection that may otherwise be avoided. Working on our old traumas, conditioning, and patterns allows for more loving and healthy relationships. Who doesn't want that in their life?

Increased attention

In a world where everything is vying for your attention, you have to ask why. Because it is so valuable! Without it, you wouldn't operate properly in the world, so realize its importance and increase its power. Sustained focus allows you to undertake everything in life with a higher degree of quality and care. Studies show that increased concentration is directly linked to
meditative practices.

Balanced emotional life

From depression to rage, meditation can ease all types of emotional imbalances, leading to more inner peace. The observation of oneself and the breath develops mindfulness of our actions and regulates hormonal health.

These five benefits are just a few of the numerous ways that will help you optimize your health, wealth, and beauty. Set aside ten minutes today and start a mindfulness practice—there's no time like the present!
